We at Natural Born, take great care to keep our products as natural as possible. Under some other organic and natural labels, one can find ingredients like parabens, used as preservatives, and sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS), used as a strong, harsh detergent in shampoos and toothpaste.
This is a foaming agent which makes big bubbles, and that is why it is used so commonly, but it also has the bad reputation of being carcinogenic.
Oils need no preservatives, whereas creams do, because they are an emulsion of water and oil. Benzoin tincture and benzyl alcohol (low dosage less than 1%) are used as preservatives in our cosmetic formulations. These 2 offer a mild, non paraben, broad spectrum, antimicrobial preservation. It is still important to store the products in a cool place, best in the fridge or a cold room.
Our Milk Wash, Face Scrub, Body Scrub and Bath Salts have no preservatives at all, nor do our Body and Face Oils.
I started making my own creams about 20 years ago. I never trusted the big players in the cosmetic industry and am still amazed how they can charge so much for a concotion of essentially only water and oil.
Conventional perfums no longer have natural essential oils present. Synthetic substances have taken over.
We do also not use palm oil. You may be aware that rainforests are being destroyed to grow palm trees.
We use zinc oxide, titanium oxide and methoxycinnamic acid as suncreens. These are all considered natural sunprotecting agents. The zinc and titanium oxide used by Natural Born are not nanoparticles. Best is to stay out of the sun.
Please note that all products containing bees wax might have tiny specks. This is evidence of the high quality raw, unbleached bees wax we use.
